Oh yep, let me detail a little more on this!
Our company (a startup) is using a matrix organization, so all designers are part of different missions/projects.
So designers don't have daily scrums altogether but with their respective squads (PM, devs).
In matrix org. we separate the function from the mission.
Design team is a function and we have a weekly sync-up + 1o1 peer review that are both optional (if no discussion topic, we skip).
Each project/product is a mission team. For these, daily follow-up are super necessary as you already mentioned it.
So based on what I understood, in similar situation as what you described I wouldn't run daily scrums with the function members as this would be too much. :)
